1965-70 Mustang Power Steering Conversion Kits
Upgrade Your Classic Mustang with Modern Power Steering
Upgrade your classic 1965-1970 Mustang with a modern power steering conversion kit. These kits feature a newly manufactured integral power steering gearbox that provides a true modern power steering feel, improved feedback, and a quick 14:1 ratio. Designed to bolt directly to the factory mounting location and fit the stock pitman arm, these conversion kits make installation straightforward. Note that the steering column will need to be collapsed or shortened for clearance.
For factory power steering cars, either a manual drag link (#990050) or a drag link adapter (#990003) will be required. Additionally, 1967 Mustang owners must measure the sector shaft to determine if it is 1” or 1-1/8” prior to purchase. Please note that the power conversion box will not fit with the factory Z-Bar clutch linkage.
Steering Column Modifications
- 1965-1967 Mustangs: Trim the outer column tube for rag joint clearance and use a replacement inner column shaft (#990040). Connect the conversion box to the stock column with a rag joint (#052534).
- 1968-1970 Mustangs: Tap the rag joint flange with a rubber mallet to collapse the factory collapsible steering column for the needed clearance. Connect the conversion box to the column with a half-rag joint (#990016).
