Chevy 1955-57 Power Steering Conversion Kits
Upgrade Your 1955-1957 Chevy with Modern Power Steering
Borgeson offers an integral power steering conversion kit for your 1955-1957 Chevy. The Borgeson conversion box is a remanufactured GM Delphi 600 integral power steering gearbox, representing the latest generation of power steering technology. It provides a true modern power steering feel, improved feedback, and a sporty 12.7:1 ratio. The conversion box is designed to bolt directly to the factory mounting location and fit the stock pitman arm, making installation straightforward. However, converting to this system requires shortening the stock steering column.
For cars with factory power steering, a drag link adapter (#990001) or manual steering linkage will be required.
Steering Column Modifications
- Floor Shift Cars with Stock Column: Trim the outer column tube back to the firewall and use the replacement steering column shaft (#990008) with rag joint (#055034) to connect to the conversion box.
- Column Shift Cars with Stock Columns: Extensive modifications and sectioning are required. Pre-shortened stock columns are available for 1955-56 and 1957 cars, which require a rag joint (#055049) to connect to the conversion box.
- Aftermarket Columns: Direct replacement aftermarket columns are the proper length for use with the Borgeson box and will connect using either rag joint (#055034) or (#055052) depending on the column shaft.
