I installed this in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) and it is too short. I had to remove the set screw holding the inner and outer shaft together to get the coupler on the steering gear. The inner shaft slot was about 3/8” too short and the set screw was seating into the raised lip rather than acting as a stop in the machined channel on the shaft. I am a little uncomfortable about the safety of the length of the inner shaft left in the outer one. The components are very high quality and it fixed the slop in steering from the old steering shaft. How much should the inner shaft insert in the outer for safety? Is the set screw between the shafts necessary?

The inner shaft has about 6" of overlap with the outer, if you cannot see the flat torsion spring you have plenty of overlap. The small retaining screw is just to prevent both shafts from coming apart when not installed and is not necessary once installed.

Hello, will the 000894 work for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee? I don’t see why It wouldn’t but just need to make sure before purchasing. Thank you.

This should fit an '01 as well, the shaft has a fully extended length of 33" and a 3/4"-36 spline connection at the column and a 3/4"30 spline connection at the steering box.
